[dropcap]C[/dropcap]hristopher Krysciak, a 17-year old from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, won the fun-filled “One Eye One Fly” tying competition at the 25th annual International Fly Tying Symposium last weekend [Nov. 21-22] at a packed Garden State Exhibit Center. Second place went to fly tier Joseph R. Wedum, Des Moines, Iowa; third place was awarded to Philip Allen of Maine.

“However, the competition was so close and the end results so creative, event co-sponsor Regal Engineering, manufacturer of the Regal Fly Tying Vise, awarded all three of the top finishers new vises,” said Chuck Furimsky, director of the event.

Judges for the 15 minute time limit, 10 tier competition were Bob Clouser, Steve Silvario, Bob Popovics, Hans van Klinken, and Harry Schoel.

“The ‘fun wrinkle’ in the event was each competitor wearing a black eye patch to create the One Eye One Fly look. It was silly, but a lot of laughs,” said Furimsky.
