[dropcap]F[/dropcap]oam flies are now much easier to tie because demand created a market for foam “parts,” actual bug pieces (bumble bees), strips, colors and a multitude of densities and thicknesses.

Foam flies are easy to tie and there are even cutting tools for making commonly used shapes.

The Gurgler Fly is the invention of Jack Gartside and is built for saltwater duty.  It’s a floating fly that spits and “gurgles” when stripped – imitating everything from shrimp to wounded baitfish and a frog for bass.

The Gurgler is a simple and very effective fly to tie.  The Gurgler style tying technique has even been incorporated into mouse flies for trout!  The Gurgler can be tied in many different colors and sizes.  White, Tan, Shrimp, Chartreuse and Olive are favorites among many fishing guides in both the salt and freshwater.
