[dropcap]P[/dropcap]ulled perpendicularly to a river bank, a sinking line with a long leader and a small fly, fished through a deep pool, over a ledge or deep drop off is a recipe for spending time not catching. It should be called no-bite leader or failed angling techniques I’ve learned not to love.

So, lets ask Kelley Galloup what he knows about streamers pulled through trout haunts and all important leader construction.

He says think short leaders for sinking, forget sweeping. Think longer leader if a floating line

Kelley’s inquirer asks, “How long of a leader do you use for fishing big articulated streamers off a 200 to 250 grain streamer line? Do you build your own? What’s your recipe, and what’s the importance?”
