[dropcap]M[/dropcap]aking crustacean eyes as shown in this LIVIT Films’ Vimeo has nothing to do with fun or saving money, but a lot to do with looking like eyes to the shallow water or flats dweller you’ll be targeting. These hand ‘tied’ are much, much better than store bought versions – attracting a bite and boasting durability.
The elaborate (in materials) set up shown is standard fare for a pro tyer, but for those of us who tie only for the day ahead, it maybe a bit much. If you have not yet made an investment in a drying wheel similar to the one shown in the video, you’ll probably want to. It helps enormously when making duplicates that have wet application steps; paint, adhesives, epoxy or require dual layers of anything applied wet that must dry symmetrically shaped … like ‘eyes’. Too, a wheel dryer assures non-sagging finish, fly not being stuck to another object, and saves a ton of time. Unless you enter the wide world of UV cured adhesives, this is the way to go.
