The Atlantic Salmon Federation is dedicated to the conservation, protection and restoration of wild Atlantic salmon and the ecosystems on which their well being and survival depend.
ASF’s actions are firmly based on scientific research and the organization continues to be a leader in unraveling the mysteries of Atlantic salmon migration and the issues affecting their restoration to abundance in both the ocean and our rivers.
From tracking smolt in rivers as they migrate towards Greenland, to monitoring the interactions of wild Atlantic salmon with farmed salmon, to providing expert advice on all issues related to Atlantic salmon, ASF works to bring science to bear on matters related to wild Atlantic salmon.
Among ASF’s most important Research programs are:
- Tracking Atlantic salmon at sea and in rivers
- Exploring new ways to make land-based aquaculture economic
- Monitoring North America’s Index River of Interactions between Wild and Farmed Atlantic Salmon
- Providing expert scientific advice on dam and fish passage issues in North America
ASF’s Researchers work cooperatively with a wide range of private, governmental and non-profit organizations to monitor and safeguard wild Atlantic salmon and other migratory species, the habitats on which they depend, and on the many issues affecting them related to human actions.
