Now on the American Museum of Fly Fishing website
[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ith the assistance of Outdoor Life retired fishing editor Jerry Gibbs, AMFF has compiled the history of American saltwater angling from its early European roots to its current status as the fastest growing sport in the fishing industry. A section of our permanent exhibition, The Wonders of Fly Fishing, features important highlights from this research, including a special saltwater reel developed by Lefty Kreh, the first Orvis impregnated saltwater rod created for Harold Gibbs, a collection of saltwater flies tied by their originators, and a watercolor flats fishing scene by world-renowned artist John Swan.
NOTE: AMFF anticipates a 2015 release date for both the traveling exhibition and online exhibition.
About:
A celebration of all things angler… dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of fly fishing. The American Museum of Fly Fishing was established in 1968 in Manchester, Vermont, by a group of passionate and enthusiastic anglers who believed that the history of angling was an important part of American culture and tradition. The Museum was created to serve as an institution to research, preserve, and interpret the treasures of angling history.
Today, the Museum serves as a repository for and conservator to the worlds largest collection of angling and angling-related items, numbering in the thousands. Our collections and exhibits thoroughly document the evolution of fly fishing as a sport, art form, craft, and industry in the United States and abroad, dating as far back as the sixteenth century. Rods, reels, flies, tackle, art, photographs, manuscripts, and books form the Museum’s permanent collection.
