Bonefish & Tarpon Trust names Mike Stidham 2015 Artist of the Year
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s an artist who paints fish in their natural environment, Mike Stidham is singularly qualified. He spent years guiding in Idaho on the Snake River, and at one time is said to have held an International Game Fish Association (IGFA) world record for hammerhead shark on a fly.
His paintings have been featured in publications such as Fly Fisherman, Rod & Reel, Outdoor Life and Trout, and he designed the 1992 Texas Saltwater Gamefish Stamp. Additionally, Mike is one of few artists who has also worked in other media, such as hand-colored etchings and original stone lithographs. Mike’s artwork has been the feature of tee shirts sold through L.L. Bean and Nordstroms.
Mike’s perspective, as you’ll see, is unique because of so many years spent on and in the water, at times chasing after the various species he transforms into his paintings.
Note the use of light and loose image creations that produce unique artistic merit – rather than just routinely painting every scale, stripe or spot.
