Audubon Florida / Restore: April 2014
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]few days ago, in a room packed with supporters, Everglades restoration’s most ambitious project gained an important victory. A motion by South Florida Water Management District Governing Board Members Glenn Waldman and Sandy Batchelor was unanimously approved, committing the State of the Florida as a partner in the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP).When implemented, this project will deliver long awaited benefits for the Everglades and for our coastal waters. The construction of CEPP is one of Audubon’s top priorities for the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.
Thank you to everyone who sent letters and made their voices heard in favor of this critical project. This is the most important conservation victory for the Everglades this year.
While today’s decision is just one of many that are required, it is the most important as it demonstrates Florida’s continued willingness to advance Everglades restoration. This is a good day for our remarkable Everglades birds and wildlife.
The nearly $2 billion CERP plan was designed to help the Everglades, increase water supplies, ease coastal pollution by recreating historical water flows.
