[dropcap]S[/dropcap]hrimp, as in John Carpenter’s Crystal Flash Shrimp, are a meal for any self respecting bonefish, tarpon, permit, redfish and many more animals of the salt, as well as those that swim in fresh water. It flat out catches fish, a very important point.
I do not tie my version with as much attention to detail as Carpenter does, but the ingredients are the same and it is a knockout for redfish (#6, #4 and #2 have gotten the most eats here in Georgia). I have not been trout fishing with the Crystal Flash Shrimp yet but think a smaller version would definitely get attention.
The alternatives for this fly are numerous and invite modification in both size and color.
