[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his coming August, El Pescador Lodge will play host to the Belize Tarpon Tagging Expedition led by internationally acclaimed Marine Biologist Dr. Jerry Ault, the master of tarpon fishing, Stu Apte and Chicago Angler/conservationist, Adam Marton.

This is a rare opportunity for folks who dream of being a Marine Biologist for a day and playing a significant role in the effort to protect and understand global tarpon populations. The Belize Tarpon Tagging Expedition is a chance to actually help answer the “$64,000 Question” — Are our fish, their fish?

The 2014 the expedition will be armed with the most technologically advanced PAT & SPOT satellite tags. The goal of the expedition is to land, tag and release adult tarpon that migrate annually to the world-renowned Long Key area. After tagged tarpon are successfully released, these efforts will enable scientists from the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science to study global movements, habitat and behavior of the fish. This data will ultimately be used to assist fisheries managers, anglers and government officials from around the globe to make even more intelligent decisions about how to properly manage tarpon populations.
