It is called Dumb Bunny
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]ightline Productions’ Tim Flagler has a Vimeo oriented website that we have become addicted to for the simple reasons that his fly tying instructions are clear, there are hundreds of patterns, he provides full explanations of every move, and most importantly, his flies catch fish. He is a fly fisher.
The example shown in the Vimeo is called Dumb Bunny and tied versions recently got workouts here in Georgia. The versatility of the fly is like a star quarterback. It was tied on a #2 and #6 Do-It hooks (as recommended by Flagler), and as a tube fly using Mustad streamer hooks. The hook-tied fly out-performed the ‘tube” version, clearly.
The fish were largemouth bass on a private impoundment, panfish on a local stream in Roswell, Georgia and trouts on the private waters of Brigadoon Lodge in Clarksville, Georgia – a favorite spot of President Carter’s.
The Dumb Bunny was blind cast at each venue and swum in around 3-feet of water using a jigging retrieve of varied strips
Its advantages: it looks like a bait fish, swims like one, easy to jig, and the hook orientation (hook point up) and being affixed to the rabbit zonker hide made it “weedless.” In the trout setting, the fly could be dragged over river rocks. A big plus. The trout strikes were very aggressive.
