Tying a Strong Loop Knot – by IGFA Hall of Famer Captain Steve Huff
[dropcap]L[/dropcap]egendary fly fisherman, Captain Steve Huff, ties this loop knot to his permit crab flies with tippet material. Huff created this know out of necessity when Del Brown was pursuing permit tippet world records in the 80s and 90s.
A loop knot allowed the fly to drop freely unlike a fly secured with a clinch knot
The only problem was the loop knots commonly tied were substantially weakened the strength of the tippet material
After tying many variations of loop knots, Huff came up with this double-line five turn loop knot that held better than any other of the knots he had ever tied.
