[dropcap]I[/dropcap] contacted Simon Gawesworth at RIO with the intention of finding the RIO fly line that is most suitable for my particular needs while flats fishing for striped bass in the Northeast. Personally, I prefer tropical lines for their stiffer cores, even in the cooler waters of the northeast. I would prefer a little coiling and memory to a really limp running line that knots and jams up while I attempt to launch my crowning stroke. For that reason, I have become

accustomed to somewhat stiffer cored lines. I find they shoot much better and simply function better than the cold water lines. So I explained all of this to Simon and he recommended that I try RIO’s Saltwater Tropical Intermediate line (WF-10-I/I).

The line arrived a week ago and I have managed to fish with it 3 times on my local flat’s with client’s and fellow guide buddies. I love the line for this purpose. It has a clear tip for stealth purposes and all 3 clients who tried it found it easy to cast with really zero coiling or memory. It shoots great. A guide buddy told me after sticking a few small bass on it on Sunday that he was going to rig all his flat’s fishing setups with it. I have had a unanimously great response so far. And of course, when I head to Belize to catch permit or tarpon on slightly deeper flats, I know what line I will be packing. Thanks for recommendation, Simon. You have designed another stellar specialized fly line!
