Fly Fishing Museum of the Southern Appalachians, Cherokee, North Carolina announced the first inductees to be recognized at the new annual museum event

The 2016 Museum Hall of Fame Inductees: Walter Cary, Wanda Taylor, Jim Casada and Phil Bracewell.

At a remote, private Fish Camp South of Jacksonville, Florida, Wanda gets three ladies up and running in two days of intense instruction, the event was sponsored by Don Reed’s famous Saltwater Fly Tyers in St. Augustine, Florida. Wanda Taylor

Wanda Hair Taylor will be inducted for her many contributions to the Recreation of Fly Fishing in the Southeast as a professional guide. In addition, she is the world’s first woman to become a Master Certified Casting Instructor by the International Federation of Fly Fishers. She is also the owner of Wanda Taylor Fly Fishing. Her charitable contributions include; Georgia Women Fly Fishers “Casting For Confidence,” a Free Fly Fishing Retreat for breast cancer survivors; North Carolina and South Carolina’s “Casting Carolinas,” Free Fly Fishing Retreats for women with all types of cancer; “Casting For Recovery,” a free fly fishing retreat for women with breast cancer, and always volunteering at Project Healing Waters events.

Walter Cary

Cary is inducted for his Crafts as a Professional Popper Maker who is well known for his many decades of creativity and wisdom in designing poppers that panfish and bass can’t resist. He is also highly recognized for his dedication to providing fly tying demonstrations and fly fishing presentations
working, with novice anglers, kids and veterans.

Jim Casada

Inducted for his Communications as an author of numerous Outdoor books and for his seminar work – sharing a lifetime of knowledge and experience with us all. He has written about numerous academic, fly fishing, hunting, game recipes and historical matters.

Phil Bracewell

Inducted post hummus for his many years of dedication to Conservation as a founding member of the original North Carolina Chapter of Trout Unlimited and as a volunteer conservation leader who served on the Trout Unlimited National Director for many years. He was the fund raising leader of the Northwestern Chapter of Trout Unlimited who set national banquet records for many years.

About Hall of Fame Inductions

The first annual Museum Hall of Fame inductions will be conducted on September 24, 2016, at the Yellowhill Community Center located at 1416 Acquoni Road, Cherokee, NC 28719, near-by to the museum.

Museum Hall of Fame nomination forms may be obtained electronically from Alen Baker alenandscottie@aol.com or picked up as hardcopy at the museum. The museum seeks to recognize those that make outstanding and unique contributions to the art, science and the sport of fly fishing. We encourage you to nominate your friend or loved one that meets the nomination criteria and is deserving such recognition.
