[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Spring Backcountry Fly Championship has been extremely successful and Capt. Paul Tejera has planned a fall event because of popular demand! A few slots are still open. Fishing will be the weekend of October 25 & 26th from the Lorelei in Islamorada. This tournament challenges the angler to catch the two largest redfish and snook on fly. Participants are allowed to measure up to two redfish and two snook daily. The winning team will have the highest combined inches between their four fish.

This tournament is open to teams of guides, guide and angler, or two anglers. Entry fee is $500 with prizes including a custom engraved Nautilus fly reels for the Grand Champion, Largest Snook and Largest Redfish. Florida Keys Outfitters and Nautilus are happy to help with sponsorship. For rules and entry form or any questions, please contact Capt. Paul Tejera at (305) 393-2156 or captbackbone@gmail.com.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa All American Backcountry Fishing Tournament

November 8-10, 2013

Cheeca_Lodge_Logo[dropcap]C[/dropcap]heeca Lodge really knows how to run a tournament and in the All American Backcountry Fishing Tournament, anglers compete for trophies and prizes for releasing five different species of fish: snook, redfish, bonefish, tarpon and permit.

Cheeca’s General Manager, Herbert Spiegel said “In honor of our late friend, proceeds will benefit the George Hommell Jr. Florida Keys Habitat Fund.” This memorial fund was set up by the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, which has earmarked donations to restore flats in the Florida Keys. The BTT is an organization of concerned anglers and guides who are dedicated to conserving and enhancing global bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries and their environments through stewardship, research, education and advocacy. For tournament rules and additional entry forms, please contact Julie Olsen, (305) 517-4449, jolsen@cheeca.com.
