[dropcap]A[/dropcap] few weeks ago my pants decided to hook-up with the jagged edge of a guard rail while fishing the “flat” bridges along Florida’s Rte. 41 (Tamiami Trail). A rip of embarrassing proportion. Crotch to knee. So, the cheapskate in me was forced into the replacement mode.

bonefish_2To fish or fly fish in Florida you need pants that are lightweight (heat), durable and have convenient pockets that don’t wear out. My “guard rail” pants didn’t have all those requirements – pockets had wore out. With less than enthusiasm, I set out to replace my fishing pants, and, in the back of my mind, maybe I could find pants that I could wear everyday and not look like a fishing ‘geek’. Voila, David Olson’s and Rick Derrer’s Fly Shop of Miami, my home away from home, had True Flies’ Oyster Creek pants. Although they didn’t have my size or the color I wanted, they ordered what I wanted and said a week or more. A few days later, David called: “They’re here,” he said. I’d bought two pair. One in Heron and one in Oat color.

Well, nobody has called me a fishing geek yet. I’ve been wearing them daily for a week or more, but I have been asked: “Where did you get those”?

Do I have a modeling career ahead of me, or was it just the the pants?

Here’s the real advantages to owning OYSTER CREEK pants:

Cotton 60% (soft), and 40% nylon twill (aids in fast drying and water repellency); stain resistant and best of all, a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30. Also, a really, really useful cargo pocket with an ‘easy’ pull zipper.
