[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter a formal education in the visual arts and a career as a commercial art director, Bob Sullivan moved out to the East End of Long Island where he began his second career as a fishing guide and USCG licensed sea captain. He fishes for striped bass, false albacore, bluefish and the occasional bonito under the Montauk lighthouse.
“It is fun taking anglers out in the boat and helping them achieve their fishing goals, but it can be disappointing when events conspire against us. Painting on the other hand leaves success or failure almost entirely up to my effort and determination. And when the weather is bad I can still paint indoors!”
Naturally, for the underwater scenes, he works from photographs, but the streamside and the seashore subjects are painted on location. The places that are good for fly fishing are invariably good for painting too. Bob will be fishing the Farmington and Housatonic in May and Silver Creek and Henry’s Fork in late June.
Bob accepts commission work. Be sure to check out his website to see more of his artwork.
