[dropcap]N[/dropcap]OAA and the 33 Sea Grant Programs have teamed up to designate the first full week of every June as “Rip Current Awareness Week.”
Rip currents are associated with about 100 drowning deaths every year, but the real problem isn’t the current, it’s the way we react to them. The current can be very strong and many people panic but if you stay calm and know what to do, you’ll be just fine.
Educate yourself about rip currents to make sure you and your family stay safe.
