A familiar image in cities and major towns across the US.

Thankful

By Skip Clement

On Thanksgiving, I usually volunteer at a Baptist Church in a poor community just outside of Atlanta that feeds hundreds of street people and low-income families a hearty sit-down Thanksgiving dinner for free.

When I asked Mary, the woman that runs the church center, about my instructions for serving this year, she said, “We’re not doing Thanksgiving Outreach this year because of COVID 19.”

When I asked about helping deliver meals to people’s homes, she paused, then said, “Our brothers and sisters don’t have permanent addresses – can’t even vote”

Thankfully, there is a stand in line handout program and I hope I’m needed to help.
